How to play Ludo
Race your four tokens from your yard, once round the board and into home in the centre. The first player to bring their tokens home wins.
Your turn
- Roll the die by tapping it.
- Tap a glowing token to move it that many squares, clockwise round the board. When only one move is possible, SHO makes it for you.
- A token leaves the yard on a 6 (in a Quick game, a 1 or a 6) and goes to your start square.
Roll again
- After a 6, you roll again. Three 6s in a row and your turn is over.
- After you capture a token, or bring a token home, you roll again.
Capturing and safe squares
- Land exactly on a rival's token to capture it: it goes back to its yard and must start again.
- Tokens on the start squares (coloured) and the star squares are safe and cannot be captured. Several tokens can share them.
- Your coloured home column is only for your tokens, so they are safe there.
Reaching home
You need the exact number to reach home. If the roll is too big, that token cannot move.
Classic or Quick
- Classic: All four tokens home. A 6 brings a token out.
- Quick: First to bring two tokens home. A 1 or a 6 brings a token out.
Online
- Two players sit opposite each other; four players use every colour. Seats and who rolls first are drawn at random.
- You have 30 seconds for each roll and move. If the time runs out, the computer plays that turn for you. After three missed turns you leave the game.
- At an entry table, everyone pays the entry when the game starts and the winner gets the pot (less the house share). If you leave, your entry stays in the pot. When everyone else has left, the last player wins.
